Marriage
What is the Sacrament of Matrimony?
The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring. This covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1601)
Wedding Preparation Process:
Congratulations on your recent engagement! We are so excited for you. Thank you for letting St. Patrick Parish be a part of this beautiful sacrament for you and your fiancé. Preparation to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony is a process, just like Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. To begin the wedding preparation process, please fill out this preliminary information form, and the parish office will be in touch with you soon on the next steps!
If you and your spouse were not married by a Catholic priest (e.g. civil ceremony, judge, non-Catholic ceremony, independent chapels, etc.), a priest from our parish would be happy to speak with you about having your marriage “blessed” or convalidated in the Catholic Church. To begin the process, please contact Katie Tourt at weddings@stpatrickyorkville.org or call (630) 553-6671.
At St. Patrick Parish, one of our major concerns is helping parishioners complete and update their sacramental life. We educate children and adults to prepare them for their Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. Adults are instructed and assisted as they prepare to celebrate marriage. For those whose marriages did not work out as planned, we offer assistance in requesting annulments.
We are here to help you and guide you through the annulment process. The first step is for you to gather the following documents before meeting with our Deacons. Once you have these in hand, please call to schedule a meeting at which time we will discuss the complete process and a reasonable timeline for completion, as well as any costs involved.
