First Communion
What is the Sacrament of the Eucharist?
The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion) is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1324). As Catholics, we believe that the Consecrated Host and Wine are the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. It is Jesus himself whom we receive, not a symbol. Please consume immediately upon receiving Jesus in the Eucharist.
Child
Your child is eligible to receive the Sacrament of First Communion beginning in the 2nd grade after they have been enrolled in our Family Formation program for two consecutive years. Preparation classes will be offered in the second year. The reception of the sacrament will be held in the springtime after the completion of preparation. To learn more and register your child in our Family Formation Program, please contact our Sacraments Coordinator, Kara Baughman, or see our Family Formation page.
High School or Adult
If you are in high school or and adult and would like to receive the Sacrament of First Communion, please contact our OCIA Coordinator, Catherine Sims, or see our Becoming Catholic page.
Only those who are practicing their Catholic faith can receive Jesus in the Eucharist because they truly believe that it is the Real Presence of Christ and have prepared themselves to receive Him. For those who do not share our belief or are not ready to receive Holy Communion, we encourage you to come forward for a blessing. To express your desire for a blessing, simply come forward with your arms and hands crossed over your heart. The minister will know you want a blessing rather than receiving the Eucharist.
If you would like to arrange for a Home visit for Communion, please contact our parish office at (630) 553-6671 or email info@stpatrickyorkville.org. A Eucharistic Minister will bring Communion to you. You are an important part of this parish, and it is important that you receive the Eucharist.
